Take 'Em To Church: Is Mikhail The NEW Kirk Franklin??

There is often controversy from both sides when blending gospel and rap genres. Emotions flare up and heated debates begin on whether rap lyricism has any place expressing itself in gospel culture. Well, my man Mikhail (@TheRealMikhail) is here to silence all the doubters with his new wave sound he’s bringing to the game. Drawing influences from an array of artists ranging from Stevie Wonder and Chris Brown all the way to Kirk Franklin and One Republic, Mikhail has crafted a unique sound mixing RnB, Trap, and Gospel together for a successfully harmonious experience to be felt beyond the music. Mikhail or “Kailz” as I use to call him, has been down with me for awhile. As an original member of the the Feel Good Music collective we started back in the late 2000s (as mentioned in my previous Louis Picasso article,) Kailz was our sole (or soul) RnB artist; producing some serious sounds back then. Today, the magnitude of his wave has only amplified.

Alone, in the zone.

Alone, in the zone.

Serving as a one-man studio genius, Mikhail (also known as Wavv God when producing,) engineers, records and produces all of his own original content-- often times frantically gliding a chair back and forth from computer to computer to make sure everything is perfect. With such talent and passion existing in one individual, one would question as to where he draws his motivation from? What his goals are? And what type of crowd is he trying to reach? In speaking exclusively to Mikhail, I found out that he draws strong influences from his daughter, Nova,  and girlfriend who he actually just recently proposed to. Congrats to them! When asked further about his musical mission, this is what he had to say:

“My goal is to reach a lost generation-- a generation searching for more than money, cars, clothes and h***. I’m appealing to a generation searching for something to fill the void that they really can’t get from money, sex, and drugs. I’m speaking to a fatherless generation-- bringing them the true love of God and positive music with REAL LIFE situations. A lot of times, people come with a problem and don’t get a solution but I actually want to HEAL! I don’t want to “treat” heart diseases in a spiritual sense through my music... the doctors for the most part are taught how to treat patients and not ALWAYS heal. I want to introduce my supporters to who I believe the healer is: Jesus. But in a way never done before... not shoving Him down your throats but slightly showing people who He is and what He has done for me.”

Respect The Shooter.

Respect The Shooter.

With such a divine purpose and unparelled work ethic, the multifaceted Mikhail (who is also well-versed in playing piano & drums) is using his platform to bring forth his upcoming mixtape, 2Raw4Church, slated to be release in August of this year. So is he the next Kirk Franklin? With soulful and rhythmic tracks like his 2 new singles, “OG Talk” and “Therapy Melody,” Mikhail is definitely in the running to become an iconic gospel figure. While Mikhail is on his Restore Tour with his record label, Eikon Ent, you can peep his two new singles linked BELOW.

In the meantime though, you can stay up to date by following Mikhail’s Instagram (@TheRealMikhail) as well as following new and pre-existing content on his SoundCloud page linked HERE. Beyond proud of the young man Mikhail has become and I’m looking forward to the project in August. Until then, keep takin’ ‘em to church, Bro.

Stay True. Stay Fresh. Stay Laced.
